7.1 What did everyone do after the band broke up?
Billy Corgan - After TSP broke up in 2000, Billy formed a new band in 2001
named "Zwan", which consisted of:
Billy Corgan: Vocals, guitar; Formerly of 'The Smashing Pumpkins'
Jimmy Chamberlin: Drums, percussion; formerly of 'The Smashing Pumpkins'
Matt Sweeney: Vocals, guitarist; Formerly of 'Chavez'
David Pajo (Skullfisher): Bass, then guitar; Formerly of "noise agents"
'Slint' and 'Tortoise'
Paz Lenchantin: Bass; Formerly of 'A Perfect Circle'
Zwan broke up in 2003.
In 2005, Billy released a solo album, "TheFutureEmbrace" and did a tour.
After that, he reformed the pumpkins!
D'arcy - D'arcy has stayed out of the spotlight for the most part since she
left the band in 1999, and still lives in Michigan with her horses.
James Iha - In 2001, James and Melissa Auf der Maur announced the formation
of a new supergroup named the 'Virgins', with Evan Dando of Lemonheads and
Ryan Adams of Whiskeytown. The group never went anywhere, though, and in 2002
was put "on hold". In 2003, James joined A Perfect Circle, which went on
hiatus the following year, but re-formed again in 2010, with James on board
again. Since then, he has also done a few soundtracks for Japanese films, and
a number of collaborations and remixes. In 2009, he joined another supergroup
called Tinted Windows, with Taylor Hanson of Hanson, Adam Schlesinger of
Fountains of Wayne, and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick. The band has thus far
released one album and played a couple dozen shows in the US and Japan. In 2012,
James released his second solo album, Look to the Sky. He continues to record
and collaborate with a variety of other artists, mostly in the US and Japan.
Jimmy Chamberlin - Formed an extra band in 1998 during his break from the
Pumpkins, with Jimmy Flemion of the Frogs, Sebastian Bach of Skid Row, and
Kelly Deal of The Breeders. After re-joining the Pumpkins, and following
their breakup, he was part of Zwan. He formed another side project in
2004, the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex, consisting of:
Jimmy Chamberlin: Drums
Billy Mohler: Bass & Vocals
Sean Woolstenhulme: Guitar & Vocals
Adam Benjamin: Fender Rhodes
Jimmy joined the re-formed Pumpkins with Billy and 2 new members in 2006.
After he split again in 2009, he formed a band with Mike Reina and Anthony
Pirog called 'This', which was later renamed to 'Skysaw'. Skysaw released 1
album and toured briefly before breaking up. In 2013, Jimmy worked with Chicago
sax player Frank Catalano, and has appeared on several of his recordings.
